5 star. That's the kind of people we are. 5 star hotels and 5 star airlines. Okay, so that's not us. In china we will be staying at 4 or 5 star hotels to have the minimum of western comforts. Frig, private bathroom, western toilet not squatty potty being shared with others. Yuck! Our preferred airline is opening up a route from Chicago to Hong Kong this week. Lucky us. Cathay Pacific has a 5 star rating among travelers and doesn't cost anymore than others. There are only 3 flights total to Chicago from HK daily. One American, United and Cathay Pacific. So our flight should leave HK at 11:15am and arrive in Chicago at 12:20pm. Only 1 hour and 5 minutes. Awesome! Oh wait. We have to account for time changes? The flight is 15 hours and 5 minutes. Way not cool. Our bodies will think it's noon when we leave and think it is 3am when we get to Chicago.
Getting from Chicago to Tulsa is limited to 3 choices. Departing at 1:45pm, 4:02pm or 5:25pm. How long will immigration and customs take? Most adoptive families average around 2 hours. Trying to catch that 1:45 will be very close and risky with us arriving at 12:20. But it would get us home fastest. It's American and if we missed it the only other American flight is the 5:45. It might be safer to book the United/Expressjet flight at 4:02 but no backup if we miss it. Some adoptive families have taken 4 hours to clear immigration in Chicago recently. The last flight is the American at 5:25pm. Just my luck if we booked it we would be one of the lucky families to clear immigration in 20 minutes and have a layover at the airport for 5 hours.
You can expect us to arrive in Tulsa at either 3:45pm, 5:57pm or 7:15pm. Don't expect us to look nice or possibly friendly after leaving our hotel in HK 22-26 hours ago. Leaving our hotel at 9:30am and getting to Tulsa 24 hours later our time will make for some grumpy kids and adults. Our van is being brought to Fine parking for us. Anyone who wants to meet us at the airport is welcome. All bets are off as to when we will be receiving at our home. I suggest emailing anytime day or night as you won't know when we will be awake. Jetlag lasts up to 14 days and I hear it's a killer with two new little ones. (One day per hour of time change)
